Wales

South Wales remains one of the most visited areas in the UK for motorcyclists. The opportunity to engage with motorcyclists here is ideal for the DocBike scheme and weekends in the Summer can be especially busy.

Riders

There are two prehospital doctors in South Wales who work on the DocBike scheme, both of which have been riding bikes since their teens and been working in the prehospital environment for over 25 years. Both have advanced riding qualifications and have successfully completed the police motorcycle response course with Dyfed-Powys Police. There has been significant support from the Dyfed Powys Police commissioner and chief constable in terms of training, police motorcycles and networking to help reduce the number of motorcycle injuries in Powys. DocBike Wales is actively engaged with GoSafe Cymru, BikerDown Cymru and BikeSafe UK.

Dr Rob Dawes

Rob is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Prehospital Care and splits his time between working in hospital, with Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and responding to the seriously ill and injured in South Wales. He is the Major Trauma Unit Lead for his hospital and lives in Cwmbran. Rob rides a Ducati Streetfighter V4S.

Whilst out on the DocBikes, should any patient nearby (not just motorcyclists) require immediate critical care, they can be deployed to the incident. Because being tasked to seriously ill and injured people is part of their day jobs on the air ambulance and cars, the appropriate skills can be rapidly delivered to the patient and they can seamlessly integrate with the other emergency services on their arrival.

Dr Ray Monsell

Ray is a GP who has vast experience in prehospital care and has held worldwide medical leadership positions in Boxing, as well as attending seriously injured and ill patients in South Wales on behalf of MedServe Wales and the Welsh Ambulance Service for many years. He is one of Medserve’s busiest prehospital doctors and lives in Cardiff. Ray rides a Yamaha Tracer 900.

Volunteers

Both doctors give their time freely but need help with the most important part of DocBike, spreading the word, visiting motorcycle clubs, fundraising and the day to day running of DocBike when they are working in their fulltime jobs.

How Can You Help?

Everyone involved with the charity is a volunteer. We do not employ a single person, yet despite this, we have achieved so much but there’s still so much more we need to do.

With your commitment, enthusiasm, and support, we can help to save more lives.
