DocBike is delighted to announce that our first charity ride out will take place this year in Dorset, on Sunday 26th September 2021. Online registration for the ride out opens at 9.00am on Wednesday 25th August.
Over the past 18 months, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected DocBike’s ability to engage with motorcyclists at public events, to raise awareness of how they can upskill their ride and keep other injured motorcyclists alive until the emergency services arrive, by attending a free BikerDown course.
Although public engagement has been limited due to the pandemic, DocBike’s highly trained trauma doctor has continued to patrol Dorset’s roads throughout this period and provided roadside critical care to fallen motorcyclists when they need help the most.
Now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased, the charity is delighted to be reunited with their supporters once more and to raise all important funds, with our first official ride out. The event will give motorcyclists the opportunity to take part in one of the last ride outs to take place in Dorset this summer, before storing their bikes away for the winter months.
The 30-mile route will start at The Churchill Arms in Alderholt, Dorset and finish at Henstridge Airfield, on the Dorset/Somerset border. Refreshments will be available to purchase from The Churchill Arms from 8.30am – 10.00am, with all participants needing to sign in for the ride out by 10.00am.
The finishing point at Henstridge Airfield is set to be a fantastic occasion with music, a selection of stalls to browse and a grand raffle with some amazing prizes, which have kindly been donated by local businesses in Dorset. Delicious refreshments will also be available to purchase from the onsite café at Henstridge Airfield.
As this is DocBike’s first official fundraising ride out, the charity is hoping that anyone who registers to take part, will also use the opportunity to raise additional funds through sponsorship, or make a further donation via the charity’s campaign page on Virgin Money Giving.
Dr Ian Mew, Co-Founder and Trustee of DocBike said:
“The DocBike charity has worked very hard supporting partner organisations over the years to keep motorcyclists on two wheels. We are thrilled that the first ride out that the charity has ever organised is happening here in Dorset, where the DocBike began.
“The charity is exceptionally grateful to all the local businesses, charitable partners and local authorities that are donating their time, prizes and support to enable this event to take place. We are here to keep bikers on two wheels, so we hope that this ride out will help to raise vital funds, but also raise awareness to achieve our goal.”
Registration for the ride out costs £10 and includes automatic entry for one person into the grand raffle. Raffle tickets need to be redeemed at the event when signing in. Additional raffle tickets will be available to purchase on the day of the event.
Further donations and sponsorship in aid of DocBike, can be made via the charity’s campaign page on Virgin Money Giving.
