How You Can Help / Volunteer / Engagement Volunteer
Engagement Volunteer
The doctor or critical care paramedic arrive at an event on the bike, but it takes a team effort to be able to engage effectively with other bikers. We have equipment such as our engagement tent, stand, leaflets, stickers, badges, collecting tins which all need to be brought to the event, set up and cleared away.
But it’s not just the doctor or paramedics who talk to other bikers. Just as effective, if not more sometimes, are bikers talking to other bikers. People who have been on a BikerDown or BikeSafe course, who understand the benefits of attending a course and can chat about this with the public. Children will want to sit on the bike and this is a prime time to chat to their parents, other bikers about BikerDown and going on a free course. Whilst we do have collecting tins wherever we display, fundraising isn’t the prime objective. Getting bikers to attend a BikerDown, BikeSafe or advanced motorcycle course is, as this that will help keep them from being in a collision in the future – and that’s what we’re all about!
To be an engagement volunteer, you really do need to be a motorcyclist. Someone who has that credibility when talking about riding and the benefits of doing a course that you’ve attended. Whilst a regular attendance isn’t necessary, because we give you clothing to represent the charity, we would look for you to help at a reasonable number of events each year – and let’s face it, the more events you attend, the more relaxed you are, the better you get to engage with other motorcyclists and the better at helping other motorcyclists to stay on two wheels you become!
