After a busy few months on Intensive Care with COVID-19, Dr Ian Mew has been back out on patrol with the Dorset DocBike. Travelling some 190 miles on patrol and meeting up with colleagues on the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance helicopter and outreach car, the bike was mainly in place to assist with collisions or people in need of immediate medical aid due to ongoing COVID restrictions.
A sunny but cool Sunday brought motorcyclists out in significant numbers to the West Dorset coast road. Maintaining social distancing, Dr Ian was able to chat to a few bikers at West Bay. Not being able to give out information or invite fellow bikers to a BikerDown course, the mainstay of the weekend’s work was to check over the medical equipment, get back out on patrol, iron out any operational issues and be about in case anyone needed help.
Following an enthusiastic Dorset volunteer’s meeting, much of 2020 will be used to cement processes and infrastructure in place so that we can have a phenomenal year engaging with other bikers in 2021.
Keep an eye out for the DocBike and give it a wave if you see it!
