DocBike Promotes Motorcycle Injury Prevention during Project EDWARD
The Project EDWARD initiative took place last week and DocBike was proud to play a key role in bringing motorcycle injury prevention into the project.
Project EDWARD, which stands for Every Day Without A Road Death, started in 2016 and aims to reduce the number of traffic deaths on our roads. This year’s campaign focused on those who drive to work and covered a variety of key themes throughout the week.
Keen to bring motorcyclists into the initiative, DocBike was proud to collaborate with campaign organisers Driving for Better Business, to help raise awareness of how motorcyclists can keep themselves safe on the UK’s roads and avoid being in a collision.
DocBike engaged with supporters throughout the week by sharing a range of short videos on our social media channels and on Project EDWARD’s website, covering topics around the importance of wearing good personal protective equipment and high vis, and providing bikers with some informative advice about how they can avoid being in a collision (all of which can be viewed on our YouTube channel).
The DocBike team in Staffordshire were also out in force supporting the campaign with Regional Lead Carol Close, undertaking a number of interviews for local radio and TV. In August 2019, Carol tragically lost her son Luke after he was involved in a single vehicle motorcycle collision. Keen to share her personal story with others and do all that she can to encourage bikers to upskill, Carol said:
“The day that Luke died, a part of me died too. I will never recover from the devastation and heartbreak; I am forever incomplete. He made the world a better place and touched the hearts of everyone he met.
“I urge all motorcyclists to please invest in yourselves. Sign up to a course that will help enhance your ride by upskilling you, learn how to prepare for the unexpected and even how to save a fellow bikers life. It’s no use having the dream bike if you aren’t going to be here to ride it.
“As part of Luke’s Legacy, we now have a DocBike in Staffordshire. This puts a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service Doctor or Critical Care Paramedic on a motorcycle. We are working to eradicate motorcycle deaths through engagement, injury and roadside critical care.”
It was fantastic to see so many of our followers’ support DocBike across the UK during the Project EDWARD initiative, and helping to raise awareness of our life-saving work by sharing our social media posts with others.
