DocBike Hits Derbyshire!

by | Aug 23, 2021 | DocBike UK, Staffordshire

Trustees were delighted to join volunteers from DocBike Staffordshire, along with our good friends from Mental Health Motorbike and UpRight Derbyshire, to attend a bike night held at the Cat & Fiddle Pub in Macclesfield on Wednesday 18th August.

Invited by Thorneycroft Solicitors, DocBike were able to chat to the locals about what the charity does, why upping their skills and awareness as riders is vital to stay on two wheels* and to promote BikerDown and Mental Health first aid courses.

Thorneycroft Solicitors specialise in injury claims, so they see the catastrophic results of motorcycle collisions, just as our DocBike clinicians do when attending either in the air ambulance or on the DocBike. As such, Thorneycroft are keen to support the DocBike charity in helping to keep bikers on two wheels. The bike night was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to catch up, whilst also talking to the local bikers.

Despite the inclement weather, the Cat & Fiddle kept everyone warm with their excellent pies and hot drinks and Dr Ian was able to test ride his first all-electric bike! The event was well attended and it was a lovely reunion for the National DocBike team to meet up with DocBike Staffordshire (#LukesLegacy), after such a protracted separation through lockdown.

Thorneycroft will be looking to support DocBike nationally, but there is also the possibility of Derbyshire getting it’s own DocBike in the future, if fundraising and public support allows. Basing a DocBike at the Cat & Fiddle pub (a regular biker haunt for many years), would certainly make good sense at the weekend, providing a great location to chat to bikers, whilst being on hand to respond to incidents in a collision hot spot.

* DocBike research shows that although bikers may have the right of way when they’re knocked off their bikes, there are tips and tricks that we can learn as bikers that can prevent us from being in a collision, in over 80% of fatal or critical injury crashes.
